General Care Guidance
To help protect and preserve the surface of your high quality real wood or laminated floor, please read the following information.
General Floor Care Guide
- A good quality doormat is essential on both the inside and outside of entrances to help keep sand, grit, dirt and moisture away from your wood or laminate floor.
- Use self adhesive felt pads or castor cups under furniture legs and heavy appliances.
- When moving furniture etc. please lift or slide carefully, perhaps using a clean piece of carpet upside down, to avoid marking your floor. Do not drag items across the floor.
- Avoid wearing stiletto heeled shoes without rubber tips, or shoes which may have gravel, grit or sand on the soles.
- Place a rug or runner in high traffic areas to make long term maintenance easier.
- Fillers are available for small abrasions/scratches - check with your supplier.
Cleaning
- Regularly sweep and/or vacuum your floor to ensure any grit, dirt or sand is removed.
- Wipe up spills promptly with a dry cloth. Use a slightly damp cloth on sticky spills.
- Avoid excessive use of water. Only use a damp mop (Damp to the touch. Remember if you can squeeze water out of the mop then it is too wet) or cloth, never a wet mop.
- Your floor is pre-lacquered/finished and is resistant to the following: Acetone, Fruit juices, Coffee & Tea, Alcoholic Beverages, Thinner, Fats & Oils, PVC-sealants.
- Remove stains when still fresh by using a damp cloth first. Then, if unsuccessful, use a mild (pH 6-8) detergent. If the stain still persists try a small amount of acetone on a soft, dry cloth, this removes most stains without fail.
- Avoid scrubbing the floor with abrasives and using strong detergents or solvents.
- Do not wax or use furniture polishes on the floor.
- Consult a professional if you are considering refinishing your floor.
- Floor ‘freshener’ products are available, please consult your supplier to ensure they are suitable prior to application.
Please note : These are general guidelines only, always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines supplied with your flooring over and above these recommendations.
